I enjoyed the combat pace of SFO but when I'm playing total war I want tons of units to build my armies from, and other mods either lacked in polish or quantity. Nothing takes the wind out of your campaign like that.Īgain, the units just seem to "fit" in. Unfortunately Rome 2 has a habit of crashing every 10-20 hours of game time, usually at the end of a 40+ min battle that came down to the wire. Rome 2 DEI is the hands down Caesar and is "Total War hardcore". Of nearly all of the mods for WH2 and 3K it has the most "stuff" to keep things feeling fresh.įor Empire and Shogun 2 I preferred Darthmod, but I can barely stomach going pre-Rome 2 these days. With the aforementioned submods it feels like "vanilla plus", and I love it. I really do recommend the increased upkeep submods as their philosophy is to give more funds so you and the AI field more armies, but I feel it dilutes the campaign map strategy with stackspam. They run an nice pass through the rest of the game with plenty of balance and other tweaks, plus they keep their mods very up to date. Radious adds a ton of lore-friendly units that could fool me for being in the base game, and slows down the battles a bit to make tactics and positioning more impactful.
